WHY THERE CANT BE A "MARK ZUCKERBERG" or a "BILL GATES" or a "STEVE JOBS" in INDIA.

Its 1 am and I have just finished watching the unbelievable life of Mark Zuckerberg. Its totally paranormal to see a website become so huge and attain a larger than life status in just a few years. In fact, from its humble beginnings(correct me if I am wrong to call HARVARD "Humble" in comparison to the world)to its present day global status, each and every second in that fast paced movie is nothing less than an unimaginable fairy tale with a GENIUS GENIE as the protagonist.

I know I am too late to write this and all that follows must have flashed your minds a million times but still, since no one took the pain to jot it down,I shall not miss the opportunity to take the credit for the same.

After all the gung ho of about 1 hour,55 mins and 20 seconds of my torrent downloaded print,it took me another min or so to come out of the aura of the youngest billionaire on the planet. The series of questions that followed next are-

1).WHY always OXFORD,CAMBRIDGE,MIT,HARVARD,PRINCETON and STANFORD?......WHY NOT the IITs, IIMs,(any other names you can think of that can fit in the league from INDIA?)

2).Wheres the INCEPTION in INDIA?You hear names likes BILL GATES,STEVE JOBS,MARK ZUCKERBERG, JACK DORSEY,JULIAN ASSANGE etc...etc....all FIRANGIS??...We have entrepreneurs alright who can built upon an existing idea.We can built upon what is already prevalent. INFOSYS, WIPRO,SATYAM,PATNI...etc..etc...all great software giants but do they do something out of the box?

3).WHERE are the FUNDS?...I mean even if you know that there are great original ideas brewing in the young sharp minds of our generation, we in India definitely lack the back up of loads of fiscal inflow to carry out the research.I think the politicians and their accomplices have too heavy tummies to let us do that.

I tried to quench the rush of my hormonal gushes by pointing out the following solutions-

ANSWERS-----

1).First and foremost, straight into our face, we are hell, GOD-DAMN LAZY!!!....I mean the majority of us.The set up over here has got to change. We need to stop fucking around and masquerade ourselves in the name of modesty and westernization. We simply cannot avert being WESTERN in this era of GLOBALIZATION and its not a unidirectional path as many people perceive it to be.It indeed is a bilateral lane wherein the west is approaching us too and we do have had an impeccable mark on the west as well. Now, one can view DIFFUSION of gases as a mixing of ONE GAS with the other or better, MIXING OF TWO GASES SIMULTANEOUSLY.(Forgive me for a very lame example as I am but an engineering student from a mediocre institution).

2). Our institutional set up is more theory based than practical knowledge. As far as I know of my ENGINEERING,I dont even know how to connect a motor to a starter and I am going to be an engineer in a matter of 1.5 years or so. The good part is that I know that a MOTOR and not a GENERATOR needs a starter.Situation is a lot better in premier institutes but thats not where the majority of fresh brains are enrolled in.

3).I have a feeling that IITs and IIMs can never even come close to likes of MIT,HARVARD or PRINCETON.The reason is not that they are not comparable in terms of magnitude of their stats and excellence but its more of a DIVERSITY factor.I remember how excited I was when I put up for about 4 days in IIT-D during their fest. But I feel more excited when I get to see closely MIT, PRINCETON in THE BEAUTIFUL MIND and yet again HARVARD in THE SOCIAL NETWORK.
At HARVARD you have a management student of economics as a room-mate of a software engineer. Thats how Mark Zuckerberg teamed up with EDUARDO SAVERIN and DUSTIN MOSKOVITZ, both ECONOMICS MAJORS. As per the movie, EDUARDO provided with the basic formula that led to initialization of FACEBOOK itself.
Thats how geniuses from different fields collaborate to magnify the rarest possibility of a product that's unprecedented and isnt likely to have a follower to match it up for some time to come.
In plain simple terms, let me express this in terms of a simple equation---

IIMs + IITs = HARVARD

So, we cant even dream of something big unless the prodigies from all the fields of excellence brainstorm together in one campus. No innovation is restricted to a single field of education.Involvement of various, diversified opinions to question the creditability and the sustainability of the discovery is indispensable as well as mandatory.

Although, today itself(17th Jan,2011)I read in the TOI that IITs are to expand their roles and act as counseling bodies for the new 50 centers of excellence planned by the govt. But that wont do much help.We need integrated campuses, campuses like cities wherein students can live like professionals and innovate by mutual co-operation. A place where an engineer plans a project and a manger can manage and estimate the cost, a physicist can perform experiments with its feasibility and a chemist can tell us the right compounds to mix and manufacture the most durable structure.I hope thats when we can start thinking of giving these prodigal institutions a fight.

4).Every dream, every talk, every plan burns to ashes when we start talking about the "CASHES". Money is the entity that does all the talking these days.Luckily, Indian Economy is not left at the behest of external agencies. It has strong legs of its own. But,unluckily, our own anti-social section of the population cripple those strong legs by their greed and uncontrollable hunger. Its not that only 'our' men have huge stomachs.Scams and corruption rule the politics of the world. But, a political protege like Rahul Gandhi too would soon be discovered to have links in some classified dubious act that will stain his clean image as of now. This is something that every Indian can be sure of, if not externally then deep down inside.Hence, individual integration is the first major step towards our aim.

Whatever that I have written above are obvious facts and the pity is that we are so blatantly turning a blind eye to them.A lot has changed and a lot needs to be changed too.

I am in no way taking away any credit of the prodigious abilities of likes of GATES, JOBS and ZUCKERBERG and blaming my homeland for its fallacies but at the same time, I just wanted to show that even if India has carved a niche for itself on the glaobal platform, there are areas of innovation, especially HIGHER EDUCATION where many of our geniuses need molding so that they can cast a bright and proud future for our country and can work shoulder to shoulder with the likes of fast paced innovative intellectuals named above.!!!!
