PREAMBLE-(Part –I)
Unlike most of the dedicated writers, analysts and critics, I do not usually read copious amount of literature before I start jotting down my views.
It is peculiarly amusing to see that self research of a topic leaves one pathetically unidirectional, so I would rather work on the ground of assumptions. Assumptions are powerful tools that help sculpture adroit but elusive conclusions which further require some more assumptions and thus the cycle continues. That is the very reason why researchers and analysts are in great demand.
This time, the topic that has emerged out of some intriguing but endlessly interesting discussion with Mitesh D. Srivastava is no less enigmatic.
The following two words are the ones that tickled my optic nerve(upon vision), had caused a small turbulence in my cerebral cortex(upon much thinking)-
1).CONCIOUSNESS
2).INTELLECTUALISM
I won’t go into the 'detailed' definitions or the explanations of any of the above terms as the internet is flooded with those and you can drain your whole day trying to “intellectually” comprehend the meaning of “consciousness”.
All I have are some questions which on one hand may not hold any relevance at all, while on the other, one can literally “chew” upon them for a long time.
First of all, let us look at the various states of Consciousness because intellectualism is only a sub part of consciousness.
A brief definition of both-
CONSCIOUSNESS-
Consciousness is a term that refers to the relationship between the mind and the world with which it interacts. It has been defined as: subjectivity, awareness, the ability to experience or to feel, wakefulness, having a sense of selfhood, and the executive control system of the mind.
Consciousness defines our existence and reality, but the mechanism by which the brain generates thoughts and feelings remains unknown.
Moreover, Consciousness can be categorized as-
Ø Phenomenal consciousness (p-consciousness)
Ø Access consciousness(a-consciousness)
INTELLECTUALISM-
Intellectualism denotes the use and development of the intellect, the practice of being an intellectual, and of holding intellectual pursuits in great regard. Moreover, in philosophy, “intellectualism” occasionally is synonymous with “rationalism”, i.e. knowledge derived mostly from reason and reasoning. Socially, “intellectualism” negatively connotes: (i) single-mindedness of purpose (“too much attention to thinking”), and (ii) emotional coldness (the absence of affection and feelings).
Moreover,Stoic Intellectualism by SOCRATES is interpreted in two different dimensions-
Ø Logic and reason forms the basis of all action.
Ø Will overpowers everything else and there is no weakness of will, but only a strong pessimistic will at times(that is when you deviate away from idealism).
Next, I will start popping up my queries. The very first being-
“How can you graphically depict both the terms on a CARTESIAN PLANE?”
I will try to come up with my imaginations as i fight to put them into words. Its more like trying to form my own form of Schrodinger's Equation and failing miserably countless number of times.Still, my drive will continue in the next post...............................
